Chess is a board game played between 2 players on an 8 by 8 squared board. Each player takes a turn to make a move. One player normally plays with white pieces and the other with black pieces. Chess is a strategy game where each player tries to win his opponent’s king. Each chess game can either end in a win or a draw through various means.
What is checkmate?
Checkmate is when “the king has been captured”. Checkmate can be considered to be when a move is made by an opponent where the opponent’s king is in threat of being taken, and there is no valid move left to avoid this threat, this is considered to be checkmate.
What are the chess pieces played with?
Each player starts out with 8 pawns, 2 rooks, 2 bishops, 2 knights, 1 queen and 1 king.
